Mondays have a way a making me feel tired! They can be one of the hardest days of the week because they begin the typical work week cycle. The beginning of the long struggle of the week. Somehow Saturday and Sunday flew by, and now you are looking at the workload for the week thinking, where did my weekend go. The Monday morning blues can cause you to feel drained and just exhausted before the work day even begins.
Maybe this isn't just a Monday problem. Maybe yours is a Tuesday or Wednesday or Thursday or . . . well you get the idea . . . problem. Sometimes we just lack energy to go forward. I think that is why Energizer batteries has really pushed that bunny as their advertising symbol. Don't we all wish we could get some batteries to keep on going and going and going. Products like the 5-hour energy drink market to the culture that people are run down and if you could just drink their product you would have all the energy to go strong.
Having divine power comes from an intimate relationship with God. |
What if we could have all the power to face every challenge (even Monday mornings) every day? Peter tells us, "His [God's] divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness" (2 Peter 1:3). He was writing to first century Christ followers who had been scattered throughout Asia Minor and were facing tough times. In the first century, being a devoted follower of Christ would make things pretty rough. Peter knew his target audience needed more than an energy drink to make it through the day. Peter was giving his audience the opportunity to experience supernatural (divine) power in their life.
The dream to be a superhero with supernatural power is something that kids dream of in comic books, but in reality no one ever expects. God gives us power . . . His power . . . the same power that He used to create the universe to live our everyday lives. It is the same power God granted to Moses when he parted the Red Sea. The power He gave to Samson to tear a lion apart and all kinds of other amazing feats of strength. It is the same power that Paul spoke in his life when he said it was the "power of God that brings salvation" (Romans 1:16). It was the power to calm the storms on the Sea of Galilee, to heal the lame, blind and diseased, to raise the dead and ultimately the power to overcome death and hell.
How do we get this power? We only get this power through the "knowledge of him who called us" (2 Peter 1:3). The key to divine power is knowing God. Having a personal relationship with God changes our daily life into a supernatural one. So really the on switch is found in a relationship with Jesus Christ. If you feel powerless, drained, discouraged or defeated, flip on the power in your life by getting plugged into a deep relationship with God. It will definitely cure the Monday morning blues!
